Saturday is book sale day, the forerunner of our plans to have an annual literary festival at the Star. We’ve been talking to customers about this and are delighted to already have some volunteers to help, we’ll be talking about this a lot over the next few weeks. Second-hand books will be sold and all of the proceeds donated to Duchenne UK, our house charity. Any donations (and thanks to Janet for a kind donation of books) of books are gratefully received. Any unsold books will be used at the Star for people to read or swap as part of a new village book swap and library. The event is from 12:00 until 18:00.
11 July 2024 : Quiz Night
It’s quiz night on Thursday 11 July! Teams of up to four people and it’s £1 per person to enter. Win the top prize of a £20 bar tab, the second prize of a £10 bar tab or the third prize of a pack of Nik Naks. Something for everyone 🙂 Please e-mail star@lidgatestar.co.uk if you’d like to take part (walk-ins are fine, but it’s helpful for us to know numbers). The event starts at 19:30 and pizzas are available between 18:30 and 22:00.

We have nearly 150 beers and ciders at the Star, including a wide selection of craft beers. Sam from Distant Lands is offering a tutored tasting of various craft cans across numerous styles, as well as some keg tasting. The evening costs £20 per person and includes a free pizza. You can pay in person at the pub (cash or card) or on-line at: https://pay.sumup.com/b2c/Q6NN1PQZ The Star is the CAMRA branch pub of the season and we’re keen to offer a wide range of drinks, including keg and cask. We also have regular wine tasting, spirits tasting and other events as well.
14 June 2024 : Ampersand ‘Meet the Brewer’
Come along to the ‘meet the brewer’ with Ampersand at 19:00 to hear more about the brewery, try some of their beers for free and then settle down to watch the first match in the Euros! Pizzas available from 18:30 onwards.
7 June 2024 : Cocktail Evening with Ollie and Richer Spirits Tasting
We have a monthly cocktail evening starting at 19:30 led by Ollie. We also, given how successful the last event was, have Richer Spirits offering a gin tasting during the event.
June / July 2024 : Euros Football at the Star
Although we don’t routinely show sports at the Star, we have a large screen TV at the pub to show the Euros. There will be additional events taking place during the tournament and we have a sweepstake being drawn on 10 June in support of Duchenne UK.
