The Lidgate Star is a beautiful historic pub in the Suffolk countryside, around seven miles from Newmarket. We are primarily a wet-led pub which offers frequent events such as ‘meet the brewer’, history talks, real ale festivals, tap takeovers and community events. We serve charcuterie boards, baguettes, soups and pizzas on Saturdays and light lunches on Sundays. We serve home-made pizzas every night from 18:30 until 22:00 (from 12:00 until 22:00 on Saturdays). We have an extensive range of beers (over 110), wines, spirits, soft drinks and bar snacks. We’re open from 16:00 until 23:00 from Mondays to Fridays and from 10.00 until 23:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. We don’t close early if it’s quiet, so you’re guaranteed a drink if you arrive before 23:00! We’re also dog friendly, so you can bring your dog into the pub. Cyclists, walkers, children and indeed everyone are welcome in the Star.

If you’re a group who wants to use the pub during the day on Mondays to Fridays, maybe a walking group, cycling group, friends or a community group, then let us know. We can open up just for your group and provide food and drink as required.

We now have a bar billiards table and we are joining the local leagues. You can play any time, but if you come along on any Wednesday evening between 19:00 and 22:30 we have some practice nights where you can meet new people, it doesn’t matter whether you consider yourself a near professional player or whether you don’t even know the rules. It’s about having fun and you’d be most welcome.

In April 2024, we won the CAMRA branch pub of the season award, hopefully the first of many awards!
