The Lidgate Star is located just seven miles from Newmarket, known as the ‘home of flat racing’ and an important centre of horse racing. There are two racecourses at Newmarket, the July course and the Rowley Mile.

Its heritage dates back to the twelfth century when King Henry II established Newmarket as a hunting ground. Beyond its racecourses, Newmarket stands as a hub of equestrianism, home to some of the world’s finest stables and also the location of the National Horseracing Museum. Details of Newmarket races can be found at

Throughout 2024, the Star are holding numerous events relating to the horse racing community, including visits to trainers, talks at the pub and also race days out for customers.
