The Lidgate Star is located just seven miles from Newmarket, known as the ‘home of flat racing’ and an important centre of horse racing. There are two racecourses at Newmarket, the July course and the Rowley Mile.
Its heritage dates back to the twelfth century when King Henry II established Newmarket as a hunting ground. Beyond its racecourses, Newmarket stands as a hub of equestrianism, home to some of the world’s finest stables and also the location of the National Horseracing Museum. Details of Newmarket races can be found at https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/newmarket/.
Throughout 2024, the Star are holding numerous events relating to the horse racing community, including visits to trainers, talks at the pub and also race days out for customers.
The pub is open from 16:00 to 23:00 on Mondays to Fridays and from 12:00 to 23:00 on Saturdays and Sundays.
Pizzas are served from 18:30 until 22:00 on Mondays to Fridays and from 17:00 until 22:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Cold plates such as charcuterie boards and filled rolls are available on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. We are launching a new weekend menu in late 2024.
